When you decide to have a baby, you only tend to focus on the cute moments you\u2019ll have together: the snuggly naps you\u2019ll take, the feel of their chubby little hands, the smooches you\u2019ll give them, the first \u201cI love you\u2019s\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

And yet motherhood is filled with many, many other moments. Moments that are just so \u201cout there.\u201d Moments that\u2019ll make you laugh\u2026 after the fact. Moments that you\u2019ve seen in movies but never thought you\u2019d experience day in day out.<\/p>\n

Things that even the best parenting advice in the world can\u2019t prepare you for, and that (too) often involve bodily fluids.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a mom, I can tell you that I\u2019ve had sneezes land in my eyes, and on the back of my neck (while I was driving).<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve found myself removing dried boogers from my hair while stuck in traffic on Highway 15\u2014a side effect of spending a whole night sleeping next to a sick baby.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve found cereal in the kitty litter, and cat poo in the toy box.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had to clean things off the side of the tub that should ONLY ever belong in a toilet.<\/p>\n

Before becoming a mom, I never thought I\u2019d see the day that my 5-year-old\u2014now going to the bathroom alone\u2014should douse the place with so much \u201codour eliminator\u201d spray\u2026 that I would slip on the wet floor, and\u2026 fall onto his unflushed \u2018number two.\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are also times when you think you might lose your mind. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve stopped counting the number of times I\u2019ve had hallucinations of a baby crying at work\u2014because I\u2019ve heard the sound of mine crying his lungs out so often.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had to defuse 10-minute-long tantrums because socks were \u201ctoo hard to take off,\u201d or because my son wanted mustard in his juice.<\/p>\n

Recently, I had to chase my two-year-old down a bowling lane. On a Saturday night. While the judgy senior citizens\u2019 league looked on.<\/p>\n

Another time, my son came back from school, and emptied his pockets\u2014full of sand\u2014out onto our new couch. He was looking at me dead in the eyes when he did it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are also times when you feel you\u2019re living out an episode of America\u2019s Funniest Home Videos<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Like when, at our daycare graduation ceremony, the woman next to me pointed to my son, who was seated at the front, and said: \u201cThat child\u2014it\u2019s ridiculous\u2014his bum is always on display.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last summer, the dog was yanking at my son\u2019s swimsuit. My son was shouting and running around the yard. Butt naked. I was laughing so hard I couldn\u2019t get myself to help him.<\/p>\n

Being a mom is all those things rolled into one. It\u2019s silly to think that motherhood is this perfectly wonderful experience\u2026 It\u2019s dotted with these wild and wacky moments that test you\u2014but that ultimately make you glad you\u2019re a mom. So much so that one day you\u2019ll likely say: \u201cRemember when\u2026 those were the good ol\u2019days.\u201d<\/p>\n
